Ramble On
"No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride... and if it occasionally gets a little heavier than what you had in mind, well...maybe chalk it off to forced conscious expansion: tune in, freak out, get beaten."
There's nothing quite like the feeling of being inspired. Life itself should be one large inspiring thought/experience, but sometimes we find ourselves in such a hurry, we often overlook the simple marvels. Inspiration can derive from a close friend, an athlete (shout out to Michael Jordan whom scored over 40 points in a game despite the fact he had the flu) or the wings of a dragonfly that flutter by you while sitting outside.
"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."
A quick song lyrics, a painting I don't understand at first glance, contrasting colors that seem out of place, a quote, yoga or even my dogs spirit that comes alive at the site of a mere tennis ball... these are all things that ignite that inspiring feeling.
Never have I felt more inspired than when I was traveling through India and Southeast Asia this past Summer of 2011. My heart rests in the colors/vibrancy of India and the beaches/yoga of Koh Phangan, Thailand.
Each day, I would wake up in an unfamiliar place. Finding myself outside my comfort zone taught me to look beyond the obvious, to become more aware in order to immerse myself (or attempt) to understand the cultures I fortunately had the opportunity to glimpse.
The vivacious colors of India that are not only just on the structures surrounding you, but also that elegantly adorn women's saris. You literally can feel the oranges, reds, purples in your soul. This radiance also emanates from the people, as well.
This blog is called "Ramble On" because well...I like to ramble. My mind is always all over the place and concentrating on one thing is never an easy task. My life and interests are basically one giant contrast. They don't always coincide with one-another, nor make sense, but maybe they do...who knows.
My music taste is a perfect example considering I breath everything from classic rock to hip-hop and everything in between (don't you dare ask me to choose). Nothing soothes my soul like the sound of Claptons guitar or Van Morrison's voice. You can never underestimate the power of Marvin Gaye. Motown will always being a little more happiness into my day.
Further more, I am a passionate yogi, but will never give up red meat as long as my arteries are still intact. Sorry. I love the city life, but my heart will always be in the mountains. Turning on some tunes, going for a hike or strapping on my snowboard is where I find my soul. I love basketball and sports, yet I also have a shopping addiction. I take reading very seriously, but sometimes I can't concentrate on a movie for more than 10-minutes.
Loving Led Zeppelin is another small inspiration that added to the title choice. If you watch a live version of "Ramble On," the interplay and connection of "rambling" between bassist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham is truly magical.
I decided I don't like defining who I am because I don't think I have lives long enough to fully understand myself. I am constantly changing, growing, learning. One day I might be singing country music in the car, the next day I will be rapping to Rick Ross. Like I always say "life is unpredictable...eat dessert first."
I have gone through some speed bumps recently and am discovering what I truly want to do with my life, like every other 20-something person. I am trying to find my footing in this world. I want to feel inspired that will ultimately lead me to a successful, fulfilling life. A life full of laughter, inspiring people/places, love and endless creativity.
Zeppelin never played "Ramble on" live, so just take a listen
